Babar Vaqas’s Background
Babar grew up in Gloucestershire and after having obtained his medical degree from Oxford University, he completed Basic Surgical Training in Cambridge and his Neurosurgical training program in London. He developed a clinical and research interest in Brain tumour surgery leading to a PhD from Imperial College London using advanced analytical chemistry to profile brain tumours during surgery. He has a specialist interest in Neuro-oncology, minimally invasive technologies and using machine learning in surgery and healthcare. He is experienced in designing and managing clinical trials of emerging medical technology for brain tumours.
Babar helps to deliver cutting edge brain tumour surgery in London and Essex, is an Honorary Senior Clinical Lecturer at Imperial College London and is Chair of the Brain & Spine Reference Group for the Northeast London Cancer Alliance. He is involved in Undergraduate Medical Education as Neurology Specialist Lead at Anglia Ruskin University Medical School. He is also Neurosurgery Clinical Governance Lead at Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
Outside of work Babar volunteers for international charity projects connected with surgery in Low and Middle Income Countries, enjoys trail running, traveling and reading and presenting on the future of science and technology as applied to Neuroscience.
